Practice Changes/Web Changes
This is where we'll announce the most recent
additions to our practice and web site. If you've visited us before and want to know what's
changed, take a look here first.
 | NEW
APPROVAL: On 12/27/06, Radiesse
injectable
receives FDA approval for
long-lasting contour fill. Radiesse provides a 1-1.5 year durability rather than a few months
for contour augmentation of the nasolabial fold, marionette lines, prejowl
sulcus, cheeks and chin.
The FDA has approved Radiesse for aesthetic facial contouring for
correction of features like nasolabial folds. Dr. Bass has extensive
experience using this material, being one of the first in the United States
to adopt its use and one of the site investigators in the FDA clinical
trials. Radiesse is Dr. Bass' preferred material for contouring of the
nasolabial folds, marionette lines, cheeks, chin, prejowl sulcus and nasal
contouring. Click here to go to the
Injectables
page for more information. Read the report, in which Dr. Bass is
quoted, in the Wall Street Journal: |

 | NEW SERVICE: Fraxel Laser Treatment Performed
as a series of 4 treatments, reduced wrinkles, improve the texture tone and
pore size, age spots and vascular
changes with no downtime. The FDA has cleared Fraxel to treat acne
scars, age spots, melasma, and wrinkles around the eyes. Click here to go to the
Fraxel
page for more information.

 | SNAP REVIEW:
Ultrashape-
Ultrashape is a techinique for reducing unwanted
bulges of fat without surgery, anesthesia or recovery. This is
designed to treat small areas rather than large contour excesses which must
be treated by suction lipectomy (liposuction) or other surgical
procedures. Ultrashape uses high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU)
-sound waves that are directed into the fat through the skin using a large
circular sound wave generator. The treatment requires about 1 hour and
can be repeated for further improvement. Ultrashape is not yet
available in the United States until it is FDA approved. Dr.
Bass' office and website will continue to provide updates on this exciting
new technology.

 | SNAP REVIEW:
Threadlift-
Threadlift is a technique for lifting skin in the
brow, cheek, jowl and neck without open incisions. A barbed
suture is passed under the skin after injecting local anesthesia. When
placed on tension, this suture will create a lift of the tissues for a
period of 12-18 months. Usual recovery is 5 days of bruising and
swelling. Not a substitute for facelifting, this can be a quick fix
when little recovery time is available and only a short-term effect is
required.

 | SNAP REVIEW:
Injectables- Various injectable
materials are on the market in the United States. In addition, many
that are not approved for treatment in the United States are in widespread use. Some
materials are being used for an application different from that for which
they are approved -which is a widespread and legal part of the practice of
medicine. Sculptra has been FDA approved for use in HIV patients
for facial wasting. This synthetic material has not been tested in
superficial locations and long term consequences of large amounts in the
face are currently unknown in Dr. Bass' opinion. Artefill
was recently approved as a cosmetic filler by the FDA, although use in the
lip was specifically not recommended. The permanent, synthetic methacrylate beads in Artecoll
could potentially create tissue reaction over many years in Dr. Bass'
opinion. Specific advice for selecting an suitable injectable for your
needs can be obtained by arranging a consultation.
